Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy, Étienne Schneider, visited Shanghai, from 1st to 5 November 2019 to attend the second edition of the China International Import Expo (CIIE).
On November 4, he met with President Xi Jinping and Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan during a state banquet.
On November 5, he attended the opening ceremony of the CIIE and gave a speech at the Hongqiao International Economic Forum, with a focus on innovation, digitalization and artificial intelligence. Etienne Schneider explained how Luxembourg already today is a major hub for financial and digital connectivity in Eurasia and how important EU projects implemented with the support of the Luxembourg government make Luxembourg a trusted Data hub. The Grand Duchy has already put in place the strategic building blocks and regulatory environment to enable Artificial Intelligence related product development and accelerated European certified large scale testing.
The Deputy Prime Minister also met with business leaders from Chinese companies active in Luxembourg and Luxembourgish companies active in China. A business delegation led by the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce also visited the CIIE.
